Web site owners should not stop when they already know about the number of visitors coming into their sites. This is just the beginning of the process of analyzing their website traffic.

Analyzing website traffic is more than just knowing how many visitors you are getting. It is all about what your visitors are doing when they are inside your site, the time they are spending there and how effective your contents are.

By analyzing website traffic, you:

1. Can assess the marketing capabilities of your site. If you notice that most of the visitors that come into your site are not really buying or getting your services, you should probably check the keywords you are using on the search engines. There may be a possibility that search engines are bring in the wrong kind of visitors.

This way, you can reorganize your marketing techniques and can come up with ways to get the kind of consumers your site actually needs.

2. Will know which of your pages are being visited more often. There may be some pages that are getting more visitors compared to others. Being the main page does not mean that that is where most people will be heading. There may be some pages that might be getting a lot more attention and attraction.

When you have analyzed the pages that are effective, you can try and focus your marketing on them. Or you can also try and transfer some of your important information and major offering into that page. You could even pattern other pages to that particular page so they will get visited more.

3. Get to know where your traffic is coming from and who is sending them. You will want to know if it is the search engines or other web sites that are sending the visitors to you. If other sites are sending you references, you would want to check out if you can do business with them.

This is one way of getting more leads and customers.

4. Can get to know your visitors. Once you understand the behavior of your site visitors, you can cater your sites according to what you think it is that they want most. You can fix defects as well as maximize favorites.

You will have an idea what is working and what is not working in your site. This is how website traffic analysis works.
